The Latest Breaking NFL News, Rumors, Pro Day Results and Al's Inside Scoop on the NFL Draft
First off, we had trouble with the site this week because our host was tweaking the system, but some of that was also caused by the heavy amount of traffic we received causing us to use up our bandwidth. The problem has since been resolved. Our draft-day coverage ends at 2:30 pm est today, but we will post the latest news for both Sunday and Monday. After Monday this page won't be updated, since we only offer this breaking-news feature during the peak of the draft beginning in January and ending after the draft. The amount of traffic we received this year for this page, far exceeded my expectations, but it's a huge step for a positive future for our site. Enjoy the draft!

Day Two Trades...Adam Schefter of the NFL Network is reporting the Miami Dolphins may still be willing to part with DE Jason Taylor for a third and fifth round pick in the draft...QB Chris Simms could also be on the move today.
Al's Day One Analysis...Worst Drafts Day One...New York Jets - I like their Vernon Gholston pick in the first round, but I didn't like the fact that they surrendered an extra pick to move up for TE Dustin Keller when they had other needs (HB,QB) to fill in the draft...they passed up a chance to take a HB like Ray Rice or a QB like Chad Henne or Brian Brohm...their QB's are Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens, need I say any more?...Cincinnati - Their first round pick, Lb Keith Rivers will be a good player, but the game is won and lost in the trenches...they would have been better served to trade a draft pick to the Patriots to move up for DT Sedric Ellis...and then they reached for WR Jerome Simpson of Coastal Carolina in the second round...Tampa Bay - They reached for CB Aqib Talib in the first round while passing up CB Michael Jenkins...several teams had Talib completely off their board for character concerns...their second round pick WR Dexter Jackson is a potential game-breaker, but he isn't the big-target WR that the Bucs needed.
Al's Day One Analysis...Best Drafts Day One...Kansas City - They landed the best DT in Glenn Dorsey, arguably the second best OT in Brandon Albert and a first round talent in CB Brandon Flowers in the second...Buffalo - They made both picks count...they didn't give in to the temptation of moving down in the first round and stuck to their guns by taking Leodis McKelvin the best CB in the draft...in the second round the Bills were fortunate that a big WR like James Hardy was still on the board for them to take...Washington - They offered their first round pick to the Bengals for WR Chad Johnson and after being turned down, they moved down and were fortunate that Devin Thomas (the best WR in the draft) was still on the board in the second round...they continued to strengthen their offense with WR Malcolm Kelly and TE Fred Davis with their other picks in the second round...Philadelphia - They moved down in the first round, stockpiled picks, and were still able to come away with WR DeSean Jackson and DT Trevor Laws in the 2nd round of the draft...plus...they came away with the Panthers first round pick in the 2009 Draft for their move out of the first round...
New Orleans - Their draft strategy paid off by moving up in the first round to take Sedric Ellis to fill their biggest need at DT...in the second round, they decided to fill their other need at CB by taking Tracy Porter, instead of dealing the pick to the Giants for TE Jeremy Shockey.
04/26...Ravens/Matt Ryan...NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting the Baltimore Ravens are considering trading up to the Rams #2 spot to select QB Matt Ryan.

Rams Pick...STLToday.com reports multiple team officials insisted the Rams organization was still grappling with the issue of whether to draft LSU DT Glenn Dorsey or Virginia DE Chris Long at # 2 overall...Dorsey is the top-rated player on the Rams' board, according to one team source, Arkansas HB Darren McFadden is # 2, Jake Long is #3 and Chris Long is #4, with Vernon Gholston a somewhat distant #5...but another team official denied that Chris Long was ranked #4...League sources also told the Post-Dispatch on Friday that the Rams' draft board was "tweaked" Thursday evening, and that Dorsey and Chris Long were now ranked pretty evenly at the top of the board...the same source who denied that Chris Long was #4 also denied that any last-minute tweaking had occurred. Link Redskins Trade?...The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins' efforts to trade their first-round pick, #21 overall in today's NFL draft are expected to continue as the selection process unfolds, and the Redskins could focus on defense if they fail to make a deal, league and team sources said yesterday. Bills/Bears Smokescreen...The SunTimes.com is reporting Drew Rosenhaus told the media that the Chicago Bears were checking out Michigan State wide receiver Devin Thomas on Thursday, but it turned out to be a smoke screen ...Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake didn't travel to Michigan to meet with the Thomas afterall...Many expect Thomas to be the first receiver off the board, selected by the Buffalo Bills at #11...News that the Bears would be interested in Thomas would have detered the Bills from moving down in the draft, where Thomas and Rosenhaus would both lose some coin. Link Redskins/Jordy Nelson...Jason La Confora of Redskins Insider reports according to team sources, the Redskins contingent of 10-odd people, including owner Dan Snyder, also worked him out yesterday...After leaving Clemson and flying to Oklahoma for the Merling and Kelly workouts, the Skins then flew to Kansas to workout Nelson. Link Raiders Moving Down?...The SFGate.com reports Raiders coach Lane Kiffin staked a "For Sale" sign on the front lawn Thursday, hoping to draw a few weekend shoppers for the NFL draft....Kiffin sounded all too eager to auction off the team's No. 4 overall pick, where interested teams could surely grab Arkansas running back Darren McFadden...all the Raiders want in return are a mixture of first- and second-round picks, and the earlier in each round, the better..."More than ever, not in Raider fashion, we may trade back," Kiffin said at Thursday's predraft news conference. Link Losman On The Block?...ProFootballWeekly.com reports contrary to a report out of Buffalo this week that quoted Bills chief operating officer Russ Brandon as saying, “We anticipate (J.P. Losman) being on this team,” we hear that the Bills’ quarterback is very much on the trading block.... Losman asked to be traded after last season following his demotion behind Trent Edwards, but thus far, the Bills haven’t received many inquiries from other teams....Still, the Bills hold out hope that they can work out a deal for him either over draft weekend or shortly thereafter. “Russ was simply giving the party-line answer,” said a source close to Brandon....“He’s just covering his bases in the event they don’t get a reasonable offer.” The general feeling is that a third or fourth-round draft pick either in next week’s draft if they get the deal done soon, or in the ’09 draft if it’s worked out later , is the least amount of compensation the Bills would be willing to accept...In the event Buffalo fails to see that kind of offer, Losman would remain with the club as the second-string QB rather than being cut. Link Trade Interest...ProFootballWeekly.com reports the Jets, Patriots and Ravens all remain open to moving down in the draft...while the Broncos and Bills have shown the most interest in moving back....the Panthers and Bears have also shown interest in sliding down...and the Lions have expressed an interest in moving up and are believed to be seriously targeting a running back.
