Patriots-Raiders Deal?...The report out of Boston that the Patriots reportedly "love" Jared Odrick, coupled with the report on Tuesday, that an unnamed NFL team offered the Raiders a 2010 second-round pick and a 2011 first round pick, makes me believe the Patriots are the "unnamed team" that wants to move up to the Raiders pick at No. 8. It makes sense, because I've been hearing that Odrick is "flying" up the boards, and since the Patriots own three second-round picks in the 2010 draft, and have two first-round picks in 2011 (their own and the Raiders pick acquired in the Richard Seymour trade) they have the ammunition to make such a deal. But with that stated, keep in mind that it's that time of the year where false reports are "planted" by NFL teams. -Al Fronczak

Bills/Bradford...Gil Brandt of Sirius NFL Radio, said the Buffalo Bills had a "heavy presence" at Sam Bradford's pro day on Wednesday.
Sam Bradford...Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford had what is being called a terrific workout for NFL teams on Monday, but to keep things in perspective, the workout was a scripted workout in shorts and a tee shirt. NFL teams won't move Bradford up their board because of his workout yesterday, because they expected him to "light it up", what they wanted to see is how the ball came off his hand and if he was able to make all the throws necessary at the next level. In my opinion, Bradford helped himself the most by gaining strength in his upper body, in his shoulders and arms, which has improved his arm strength and will help him take a hit better at the next level. I may be in the minority, but I'm still not sold on Bradford being a sure-fire franchise quarterback, because he has to prove to me that he can withstand the pounding at the next level and make the transition from playing in the system that he was in. Keep in mind, in the last fifty-years, dating back to 1960, just one Oklahoma quarterback (Josh Huepel, 2001) has been drafted into the league. Bills/Chargers...Not to be lost in the shuffle of the trade that sent QB Charlie Whitehurst from the Chargers to the Seahawks for a 2011 third-round pick and a swap of draft positions in the second round of the 2010 draft, is the significance of the move by the Chargers. The trade positions the Chargers one spot ahead of the Buffalo Bills in the Terrence Cody sweepstakes. Both the Bills and Chargers, have a real need at the nose tackle position and the possibility exists that both teams could fill other needs with their first round pick and thus have their sights set on Terrence Cody in the second round of the upcoming draft. This move by the Chargers would force the Bills to move up and ahead of them in the draft to select Cody. And last but not least, Bills GM Buddy Nix was forced out as the assistant general manager in San Diego, after the 2008 Draft, when Chargers GM A.J. Smith decided to restructure his front office with the hiring of Randy Mueller as senior executive of the Chargers. At that time, the Chargers said Nix retired, but his wife said he resigned. Pro Days...Representatives from the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints were among 16 NFL teams present at the University at Buffalo's annual Pro Day on Wednesday...WR Naaman Roosevelt ran a 4.59 forty-time, had a 36" vertical jump and did 12 reps at 225 pounds on the bench....WR Ernest Jackson, who last played in 2008, ran a 4.53 forty-time at 224 pounds and recorded 18 reps at 225 on the bench.... Jackson worked out for Minnesota, Detroit and New England but couldn't pass a physical because he hadn't recovered from a late-season foot sprain in 2008.... Safety Mike Newton (5-10 197) ran a pair of sub 4.5 fortys, had a 41" vertical jump, a 6.94 three-cone drill and a 4.17 20-yard shuttle....HB James Starks, who participated in the NFL combine last week, only participated in individual drills for teams. Buffalo News
Sliders/Haden...Florida CB Joe Haden dropped out of the top-ten picks in my post-combine mock posted yesterday morning and wound up being taken by the Miami Dolphins at pick No. 12. I don't remember a cornerback that ran a 4.57 forty time ever being taken within the first ten picks of the draft, since the top-ten (and the first round in general) has always been about taking prospects with incredible size and speed (the numbers) rather than production itself. After taking a closer look at Haden yesterday, (which is something every NFL team that is interested in him will do after his poor forty-time) I discovered that he was often used as a boundary cornerback in the Gators scheme and has a thin build from the waste down compared to most of the other top CB prospects and he's not as physically gifted as first thought. But on tape, you see his production, his closing speed, the way he breaks on the ball and his ball skills, but his long speed and ability to stick with the faster receivers at the next level will be questioned. Haden has a chance to redeem himself at his pro day workout, but if he doesn't get his time down under 4.5, he will have a hard time cracking the top-ten. -Al Fronczak

NFL responds to NFLPA...Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports the NFL has responded to the Union's latest statement with this:..."The union's latest statement is simply another call to preserve an unacceptable economic system," the NFL said in a comment e-mailed to Florio by director of corporate communications Dan Masonson. "It intentionally misstates our proposal, does nothing to improve the benefits for retired players, and would depress the growth of the league. The union has known for a long time that the current deal does not work. Proposing over and over again that we continue an unacceptable arrangement cannot be considered serious bargaining. The union also knows that we are not proposing an 18 percent cut in player compensation or anything like it. The growth of our game in the last decade has resulted in player compensation nearly doubling. As we have told the union on more than one occasion, by working together to institute a rational system of rookie pay, continue to build stadiums, grow the game in this country and internationally, and restructure the season, everyone, including the players and fans, can benefit." BREAKING NEWS:...3:55pm ET...The NFLPA is prepared to sign an extension of the CBA today...The players of the National Football League are prepared to sign an agreement today that guarantees that the salary cap will not decrease and that there will be no decrease in retired players' or other benefits under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)...At the last bargaining session - because we felt that it was in the best interest of the fans, the players and the League to work on a long term agreement without the unknowns of the uncapped year - we went even further to propose a one year extension of the CBA that froze the salary cap at the 2009 level. The League rejected the players’ proposal...Our representatives today renewed that proposal and also offered to negotiate a longer extension on the premise of the League’s statement that it will guarantee that the salary cap will not decrease and that retired players’ and other benefits will not decrease...We have asked the League to meet with our representatives immediately to attempt to reach an extension of the agreement.
