04/30
Final Thoughts - The first round was a crazy trade filled event which screwed up everybody's mocks, but I finished in the top 20 out of the top 100 despite the fact that I had Trent Richardson going to the Bucs, which would have been the case since the Bucs were planning on moving ahead of the Browns. I left QB Brandon Weeden out of the first round, despite knowing that the Browns were high on him because their plan was to take a WR at pick No. 22 and then take Weeden in the second round.  I moved ahead of Kiper and now rank No.3 overall in the last five year averages.  As for the draft, the Jets selection of Quinton Coples wasn't a surprise because I heard they were high on him, but I don't think he's a great fit as a five-technique DE in their 3-4 scheme, Coples can play DE in a 3-4, but he's a much better fit in a 4-3 scheme. The Bills had a terrific draft filling most of their needs, but they had QB Kirk Cousins snatched before their eyes in the fourth round by the Redskins. Cousins was one of two quarterbacks they had in on a private visit, and were poised to take him with their pick in the fourth round. The Rams selection of DT Michael Brockers came as no surprise to me since I had Brockers mocked to the Rams back on 04/05.  I didn't have the Rams taking Brockers in my final mock, because I didn't think we would go in the top 10, and I didn't know the Rams would strike a deal with the Cowboys to trade down.  I'll be posting my top 5 prospects at each position for the 2013 draft later this week on our 2013 NFL Draft Home Page.   -Al Fronczak 7:16 a.m. ET

I was way ahead of the curve and the first to report these draft tips:
04/18
Draft Scoop - With just a little over a week to go before the draft, here's the latest scoopage that I have uncovered.  South Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore is a lock to be taken within the first 10 picks of the draft, with Jacksonville at No. 7, Carolina at No. 9 and Buffalo at No. 10 being likely landing spots for Gilmore.  Alabama SS Mark Barron's stock has been flying under the radar for most of the pre-draft process since he didn't workout at the combine coming off of Double hernia surgery, but Barron had a terrific pro day workout proving to NFL teams that he's fully recovered from his surgery.  Barron could become a surprise top 10 pick on the first day of the draft.  -Al Fronczak  9:12 am

04/14
Smoke and Mirrors - Don't believe the recent rumors that the Jets will move up into the top 10 picks of the draft for OLB Melvin Ingram, as much as I Iike Ingram and have him mocked to the Jets, his lack of ideal height, along with his short arms, should be enough to keep him out of the top 10 overall picks.  If the Jets are indeed trying to move up into the top 10, its for another prospect other than Ingram, but then again, it wouldn't be the first time the Jets overvalued a prospect, since they gave up the farm to move up for Mark Sanchez in the 2009 draft.  There has also been a lot of talk regarding DE Courtney Upshaw's stock and as much as I like his play on the field, his measureables don't match up to that of a first round prospect.  Much like Melvin Ingram, Upshaw is short in stature at 6-1.5 and has short arms - 32" in length, however Ingram's workouts have been off the charts and his short shuttle time of 4.18 and three-cone time of 6.83 make him a candidate to stand up and play OLB at the next level.  Upshaw on the other hand, showed up 7 pounds heavier than his combine weight at his pro day workout and ran a 4.97 short shuttle time, along with a 7.41 three cone time.  Just a hunch that Upshaw will be still on the board when the second day of the draft begins on Friday night. -Al Fronczak  9:32 a.m.

04/04
Smokescreen? - I talked to a very trusted league source today, and was guaranteed that LSU DT Michael Brockers is a virtual lock to go within the top 10 picks in the upcoming draft, despite the recent talk that Brockers' draft stock is slipping.  I'll be updating my mock tomorrow, to reflect several important changes in my first round mock.  -Al Fronczak
(Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said after the draft that Brockers would have been their pick at No. 6, if they didn't move down in the round)

Second Round Mock - I'll be posting my second round mock on Friday morning.  -Al Fronczak   2012 Second Round Mock Draft

Bills-Bucs Trade? - I reported yesterday that the Bucs and Vikings could complete a draft day trade which would enable the Bucs to move ahead of the Browns for Alabama HB Trent Richardson, and while that deal could still be completed, another potential deal is in the works.
If the Vikings take CB Morris Claiborne at No. 3, and the Browns select HB Trent Richardson at No. 4, the Bucs will want to move down and out of their pick at No. 5, since their top two targets will have already come off the board, which opens the door for an on the clock deal between the Bills and Bucs.  The Bills would send the Bucs pick No. 10 in the first round, along with their second round pick No. 41 to move up for USC OT Matt Kalil, the player the Bills covet in the draft.  The Bucs would move down to No.10, and still have a good shot at taking Boston College LB Luke Kuechly, a player the Bucs are targeting in the draft.   An agreement between the two teams may have already been reached, with the trade being completed on the clock, if Matt Kalil slips to the Bucs pick at No. 5.  -Al Fronczak (10:33 a.m. ET)

Jets Moving Up? - Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports Alabama HB Trent Richardson told him the Jets called him Sunday to verify his correct contact info just in case they trade up for him...Keep in mind the Jets would either have to move all the way up to No.3 or the Browns pick at No. 4...The Browns and Jets have a history of making draft day deals since both teams hooked up in the 2008 Draft when the Jets moved up to the Browns spot to take Mark Sanchez, although I believe the Browns want Richardson for themselves. -Al Fronczak 1:16 pm

Undervalued - California ILB Mychal Kendricks is another prospect that could be taken much higher than expected, because of draft history, since he has drawn comparisons to former Bears' LB Mike Singletary, due to his play on the field and lack of ideal height.  Most NFL teams have a height minimum for each position that they follow when drafting a prospect in the first round and Kendrick's lack of ideal height (5-11.1) will fall under that minimum for his position.  However, back in 1981 all 28 NFL teams passed up an ILB out of Baylor in the first round of the draft by the name of Mike Singletary, because he fell under their height minimum for the position.  Singletary was finally taken by the Bears in the second round and was the 38th overall pick in that draft.  -Al Fronczak  9:16 a.m. ET

ET

Glenn Rising - I've finished breaking down the offensive linemen and have come to the conclusion that Georgia OT Cordy Glenn ranks as the second best OT available for the draft after USC OT Matt Kalil.  Glenn's individual workouts at the combine and pro day were much better than the workouts of Riley Reiff, Mike Adams and Jonathan Martin.  Add to that is the fact that he's a massive man with long arms, has very good movement skills for a big body and started 50 games in the SEC - the toughest conference in football.  In my opinion, Glenn is a day-one starter at either RT or OG and has a chance to start at LT at the next level depending on his playing weight.  -Al Fronczak

I'm in the process of stacking my board and breaking down the second and third day prospects which will formulate my top 100 board, and will be posting a list of prospects, by position, rated by which round they should be selected in the draft.  -Al Fronczak

WR Michael Floyd - Highly publicized and recognized since his games were telecast each week, but Floyd is a bit overrated in my opinion.  He's a big possession-type receiver that lacks the explosiveness of some of the other top receivers in this draft.  As Floyd has gotten bigger, his yards per catch have declined dramatically over the last three seasons, dropping from 18.1 YPC in 2009 to just 11.5 this past season.  His well documented off field transgressions will also hurt his stock a bit.  All in all, Floyd is a very good prospect that will likely be taken somewhere in the first round, but he's not a top 10 pick in this draft, like some are suggesting.  -Al Fronczak

DE Quinton Coples - Has the potential be be one of the top players at his position for years to come, but admitted that he took plays off this past season, and in my opinion, lacks passion for the game.  Keep in mind that passion for the game can't be manufactured, so Coples will need a fire lit under him each and every week for him to reach his potential.  A truly boom or bust type pick. -Al Fronczak

Draft Day Trades? - Keep an eye on a potential draft day trade between the Chiefs and Jaguars since the Chiefs interest in QB Ryan Tannehill is genuine and the Jaguars are interested in moving down in the draft.  If Tannehill gets by the Browns pick at No. 4 (which I believe he will) the likelihood of Tannehill being available at pick no. 7 is great, since the Bucs and Rams are set at QB.  The Chiefs would have to leap-frog the Dolphins at No. 8 to get Tannehill, which could in turn force the Dolphins (who reportedly covet Tannehill) to trade up to the Browns pick at No. 4 to secure Tannehill in the draft.  -Al Fronczak

Brock Osweiler - The recent rumors of Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler being taken in the first-round of the draft aren't as crazy as they seem, since Osweiler has rare size to go along with good althleticism and a more than strong enough arm to make all the throws.  Osweiler will be viewed in draft rooms as a young prospect - just 21 years old - that's just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential.  When it's all said and done, Osweiler could surpass Brandon Weeden on some teams' boards because of his upside and Weedens age.  Osweiler has already moved ahead of Kirk Cousins on my board, because he has more upside than Cousins, who in my opinion, is no better than a third-round prospect at best.  Remember it only takes one team to fall in love with a player, as the Ravens did when they surprised everyone by moving up in the 2008 Draft, for a tall kid from Deleware, with lots of upside, by the name of Joe Flacco.  -Al Fronczak
