Al Fronczak's
Pre-Combine
2010 Mock Draft
(Version 1.0)
02/14

This is my first mock for the 2010 Draft, so consider it a test run at this time.  Several players stock will change after the combine, and teams' needs will also change, due to free-agency. I will be updating this mock numerous times, between now and the Draft, and possibly once again before the combine.
                                                                                                                         -Al Fronczak

1. St. Louis Rams...DT Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska)...A great pick for the middle of their defensive        line...they could also go with McCoy, or a QB here, if they determine that he's a franchise QB.

2. Detroit Lions...DT Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma)...The Lions need a stud in the middle of their defensive line, so this pick is a no brainer...McCoy or Suh, whichever of the two falls in their lap.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers...CB/S Eric Berry (Tennessee)...Berry has the ability to play either CB or    Safety and the Bucs need as many DB's as possible to match up with their division rival Saints...a DE        like Jason Pierre Paul or Derrick Morgan could also be a possibility here.

4. Washington Redskins...QB Jimmy Claussen (Notre Dame)...The Redskins should have the pick of    the litter at the OT position..but they also want the QB of their future on their roster from day one.

5. Kansas City Chiefs...OT Russell Okung (Oklahoma State)...A left tackle to protect Matt Cassel and  open holes for their running game is high on the Chiefs priority list.

6. Seattle Seahawks...QB Sam Bradford (Oklahoma)...The Seahawks have two picks in the top 14      and would love to come away with a QB and a LT...Bradford is the pick since Matt Hasselback can no        longer be counted on playing a full 16 game schedule.

7. Cleveland Browns...CB Joe Haden (Florida)...One of the Browns greatest needs is at the CB           position, and since both QB's have already come off the board, Haden is the pick...Note - The Browns       could roll the dice on WR Dez Bryant here.

8. Oakland Raiders...OT Anthony Davis (Rutgers)...A left tackle to protect the Raiders biggest            investment - Jamarcus Russell (or the QB that beats him out for the job) is a high priority.

9. Buffalo Bills...NT Dan Williams (Tennessee)...The Bills have numerous needs including QB, but both top QB's have already come off the board...Since the Bills are switching to a 3-4 scheme, finding a true NT to anchor in the middle of their defensive line is very important for the scheme to be effective...DT Kyle Williams isn't a good fit at NT in a 3-4 scheme, and he had knee injury issues in '09...This might be a bit high for Dan Williams, but he's the cream of the crop at NT, and his stock will rise in the days leading up to the draft...The Bills could move down, but Williams could come off the board before they pick again.

10. Denver Broncos (From Chicago)...WR Dez Bryant (Oklahoma State)...The popular belief if that    Brandon Marshall has played his last snap in a Broncos uniform...if that's the case, then this pick is a         no brainer since the team would lack a playmaker at the position.

11. Jacksonville Jaguars...DE Jason Pierre-Paul (South Florida)...The Jaguars greatest need is to      come out of this draft with an elite pass-rusher...Pierre-Paul fits the bill, IF he's still available.

12. Miami Dolphins...ILB Rolando McClain (Alabama)...The Dolphins biggest needs are on the             defensive side of the ball at ILB and at the FS/CB positions...Rolando McClain has the size that Bill Parcells has always looked for in a linebacker, and will remind him of Pepper Johnson who Parcells coached in NY.

13. San Francisco 49'ers...OT Brian Bulaga (Iowa)...The Niners need to find a starting left tackle        in this draft and have Bulaga and Trent Williams to choose from.

14. Seattle Seahawks (From Denver)...OT Trent Williams (Oklahoma)...The Seahawks made QB Sam Bradford their first pick, and take Williams here to protect his blindside, and replace Walter Jones.

15. New York Giants...DE Derrick Morgan (Georgia Tech)...A bit of a surprise that Morgan is still on the board for the G-Men, and although they have other needs, a DE that can pressure the QB will be high on their board...Florida ILB Brandon Spikes could be the Giants target in the second round.

16. Tennessee Titans...DE Carlos Dunlap (Florida)...The Titans have gone on record saying that they  would like to keep UFA DE Kyle Vanden Bosch...but he turns 32 this season, and a rare pass-rushing         talent like Dunlap is still on the board.

17. San Francisco 49'ers (From Carolina)...HB C.J. Spiller (Clemson)...The Niners took OT Williams    with their first pick in the round and add Spiller here...Spiller would improve their return game and             would give the Niners a one-two punch in the backfield with Frank Gore.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers...OG/OT Mike Iupati (Idaho)...The Steelers biggest need is to improve their     offensive line, and Iupati can start at guard from day one, and kick out to tackle if needed.

19. Atlanta Falcons...CB Kyle Wilson (Boise State)...One of the Falcons biggest needs is in their      secondary at the CB position...It's either Wilson, Patrick Robinson or Earl Thomas here.

20. Houston Texans...CB Earl Thomas (Texas)...The Texans need help in their secondary and Thomas  can either play corner or move inside and play either safety position for the team.

21. Cincinnati Bengals...WR Golden Tate (Notre Dame)...The biggest need for the Bengals is to find     Carson Palmer some targets to throw to...Matt Jones gives them the big target they lost in Chris              Henry, while Tate is what the Bengals were hoping Laverneus Coles and Jerome Simpson would be.

22. New England Patriots...OLB Ricky Sapp (Clemson)...Defense, Defense, and more Defense is the outlook for the Patriots draft...Sapp is the rush-end that Belichick has been looking for.

23. Green Bay Packers...OT Vladimir Ducasse (Massachussets)...The Packers need to find a starting  left tackle in this draft, but unless they trade up, they will have to settle for second-tier prospects...
Ducasse has the size, and athletic ability to play left tackle, and his upside warrants a first round pick,      but he's still a bit of a project at this time.  Trade up or Trade down!

24. Philadelphia Eagles...DE Brandon Graham (Michigan)...The Eagles would like to find a DE, an OLB  and a Safety in this draft...Graham is the pick since Andy Reid has a history of taking linemen early.

25. Baltimore Ravens...TE Jermaine Gresham (Oklahoma)...The Ravens might have interest in           acquiring Cards' WR Anquan Boldin before the draft...if that doesn't happen, this pick could be used on      a WR, but the Ravens would also like to upgrade the TE position, and have a history of plucking top          prospects that have slipped throuigh the cracks in the draft.

26. Arizona Cardinals...OLB Sergio Kindle (Texas)...The Cards would like to add another OT (not         necessarily a LT since Matt Leinart is a southpaw), find a pass rushing OLB, and a replacement inside        for Carlos Dansby, if he departs in free agency.

27. Dallas Cowboys...OT Bruce Campbell (Maryland)...The Cowboys need an upgrade at the OT         position, and find an ILB and a FS...Campbell is the pick for now, although he won't challenge Flozell          Adams since he's a pure right tackle at this stage of his development...The Cowboys will need to move      up in the draft, if they want to find a left tackle.  Trade Up?

28. San Diego Chargers...HB Jonathan Dwyer (Georgia Tech)...The Chargers have needs at HB and RT along with NT, CB and depth at the DE position...If Tomlinson departs, Dwyer is likely the pick.

29. New York Jets...DE Jared Odrick (Penn State)...The Jets need to generate some pass rush from the OLB position since former first round pick Vernon Gholston has been a bust up to this point...but the player they are targeting (Ricky Sapp) has already come off the board...Odrick is a good fit in their           scheme, since both of the the Jets DE's (Shaun Ellis and Marques Douglas) are getting up there in age.

30. Minnesota Vikings...DT Brian Price (UCLA)...The Vikings need help in their secondary at corner and at the safety position, and they would like to upgrade their offensive line at tackle...but they also face the possibility of Pat Williams retirement...Price isn't a big run stuffing DT like Williams, but he's more of a penetrating under tackle that creates havoc in an opponents backfield.

31. Indianapolis Colts...CB Patrick Robinson (Florida State)...The Colts could use some help in their    secondary and upgrade their offensive line across the board, especially at OT...Since the top OT's have come off the board, the Colts take Patrick Robinson for their secondary.

32. New Orleans Saints...OLB Sean Weatherspoon (Missouri)...The Saints have some tweaking to do  despite being World Champions...their number one priority is to upgrade both of their OLB positions and      Weatherspoon would do just that...Another DE, and depth for their offensive line is also a priority.

Prospects that just missed the first round:
HB Jahvid Best (California)...WR Arrelious Benn (Illinois)...OT Charles Brown (USC)
FS Taylor Mays...CB Devin McCourty (Rutgers)
