Scouting Report
Jersey #17..Philip started every game for four years for the Wolfpack proving his durability...He's a prospect that got better each year at State where he was Coached as a freshman by USC's present Offensive Coordinator Norm Chow...his completion percentage rose from 53 % in his first season to 67% in his senior year...Philip has all the intangibles to become a Pro-Bowl type QB at the next level except for his mechanics i.e-delivery...He has great size and good but not great arm strength but can make all the throws necessary..He sets up in the pocket quickly and scans the field for his target but when he delivers the football he uses a 3/4 delivery motion...he gets rid of the ball very quickly with the snap of his wrist...it's possible that because he uses that 3/4 motion he gets rid of the ball faster...but the bottom line is he gets rid of the ball as quickly as Dan Marino did...he senses the rush and has good pocket presence but his mobility is average at best...he's an accurate short to intermediate passer but when called upon to throw the deep ball his accuracy declines a bit...because of his 3/4 delivery motion he doesn't get as much air under the ball as a QB with a normal delivery...what sets him apart from some of the other QB's in this Draft is his on the field leadership qualities...he's a not afraid to get in a receiver's face and let him know he ran the wrong pattern and everyone in his huddle knows who's in command.
Bottom Line - This kid's a WINNER period...and although he may be downgraded on some team's Draft Boards...he's not on mine!
Philip should be the third QB taken in the Draft and he carries a Mid to Late First Round Grade.
