NFL Draft 2003
"Second Day Gems"
The Following is a list of Prospects that I feel will be Drafted on the Second Day of the Draft but Fall into the Category of "Second Day Gems"... Prospects like Terrell Davis who were overlooked early in the Draft but have the Potential to make an impact in the league. My Top 5 Gems are the Prospects that I feel have the best chance to make an impact with the rest of the list earning an Honorable Mention.
HB Quentin Griffin (Oklahoma) 5-7 195 4.47- 40 time
Griffin will last until the Draft second Day because of his lack of "ideal size"....but Griffin reminds me alot of Joe Morris who played for the Giants...He's short and squat but has great change of direction skills and is a threat to go all the way in the openfield...because of his lack of height Defenders have a hard time locating him.
HB LaBrandon Toefield (LSU) 5-10 7/8 233 4.53 - 40 time
Toefield may not last until Day two but all indications are that he will...He has a good combination of size, power and speed but has been a bit injury prone...he wasn't used much as a receiver out of the backfiled but has good hands...Toefield ran for over 2,000 yards in just 19 carrer starts at LSU....He could be the steal of this Draft if he lasts until Day Two.
WR Billy McMullen Jr. (Virginia) 6-3.5 210 4.61 - 40 time
McMullen has the size that Scouts covet in a Receiver ...but because of his lack of Top-End Speed he should last until the Drafts second day...Billy reminds me of a young Herman Moore....a Player with great size and wingspan and a very Good Red Zone Receiver who creates Mismatches with Defenders because of his size...He lacks stopwatch speed but He's a Prospect that plays faster that his time.
SS Gerome Sapp (Notre Dame) 6-1 216 4.62 - 40 time
Because of his lack of ideal speed Sapp will last until the second day of the Draft....but don't overlook this Prospect....He's the best run defender at the safety position in this Draft and can be a punishing hitter in the Ronnie Lott mold.....but Sapp has struggled at times in coverage and may not be for everyone....in the right system I feel Sapp could flourish and make a name for himself at the next level.
DT Dan Klecko (Temple) 5-11.4 283 4.89 - 40 time
Klecko is both strong and quick and has a non-stop Motor....He has good hand quickness and knows how to play off his blocks....with that said Klecko will last until the Second Day of the Draft because He lacks the size that Scouts and NFL Personnel look for in an Interior Lineman...Klecko will make an NFL Roster due to his determination and should develop into a good situational substitute at worst....Has Good Bloodlines His Father Joe Klecko played and starred for the New York Jets.
