Al's Draft Scoop...Don't be surprised if Michigan State WR Devin Thomas is the first receiver to come off the board in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.  Thomas has made the most of his chances to impress the NFL teams this offseason, while some of the other top prospects at the position have either failed to impress, or have injury concerns clouding their draft status.  Thomas is a juco transfer that has been productive for just one season at MSU, but he's a player on the rise, has his best ball ahead of him and has added value as a return man having averaged 29.1 yds per kick return this past season.  Texas WR Limas Sweed ran a 4.46 at the combine, but has injury concerns regarding a lingering wrist inury that needed surgery this past season.  Sweed will need to impress the scouts in the on-field drills at his pro day workout this Wednesday to be considered the top receiver in the upcoming Draft .  WR Malcolm Kelly has yet to run or workout for the NFL teams this offseason because of a quad injury, but also has injury concerns regarding a knee injury that he suffered in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl game against Boise State.  Kelly was timed in the forty at 4.54 in a previous campus workout, and is scheduled to workout at 10:00 am on April 9th for the NFL teams.  Indiana WR James Hardy was impressive at both the combine and at his pro day workout, but has character concerns because of a three day jail stay for alleged battery on his girlfriend in 2006, and was suspended for two games that season for conduct detrimental to the team.  California WR Desean Jackson has been impressive in both the on-field drills and in the individual testing when he ran a blistering 4.35 at the combine.   The knock against Jackson at this time is his attitude and his lack of size, being measured at just 5-9.6 169 at the combine.

Chris Long...NFL teams will get their first look at Chris Long working out in Linebacker drills on Tuesday, since he skipped that part of the workout at the combine.

Mario Manningham...The reason that Mario Manningham dramatically improved his forty-time since the combine is because he wasn't working out in a training program to get ready for that event...Manningham had reportedly parted ways with agent Tom Condon and couldn't afford to enroll in a workout program on his own...after the Combine, he hired a new agent and enrolled in a workout training program, which prepared him for his pro day workout at Michigan.

The San Francisco 49'ers have waived WR Darrell Jackson...Jackson could wind up back in Seattle in 2008.

Al's Draft Scoop...Keep an eye on a potential Draft day trade involving the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers since both teams are said to covet two different offensive tackles in the upcoming Draft.  The Chiefs own the fifth overall pick in the Draft, and would like to fill their need at the offensive tackle position with that pick.  Jake Long and Jeffrey Otah are the two tackles in this Draft that would fit perfectly on the Chiefs line, but Long will already be off the board, and the fifth overall pick in the Draft is too high to take Otah.  The Carolina Panthers on the other hand, own the thirteenth overall pick in the Draft and are said to covet Boise State offensive tackle Ryan Clady.  The Panthers have two extra picks (a third and fifth round pick from the Jets for Kris Jenkins) in the Draft to use as ammunition in a package deal of picks to move up to the Chiefs pick at #5.  The Panthers would then be able to select Clady with the fifth overall pick in the Draft, while the Chiefs would move back in the Draft to pick #13, have the extra picks from the Panthers to use to fill needs, and would be in a better spot to take Otah because he's not worth the fifth overall pick in the Draft.  The only potential danger in making such a trade on the Chiefs end, would be another team moving ahead of them into the top twelve picks of the Draft to take Otah for themselves.
