Arkansas State Pro Day...SS Tyrell Johnson recorded a 39" vertical jump, a 10' 4" long jump, and a 4.42 twenty yd short shuttle...Johnson also had an impressive on-field position workout...9 NFL teams were present at the pro day.
Compensatory Picks...The first compensatory pick for the 2008 Draft was awarded to the Washington Redskins Round Three - The Redskins were awarded the 33rd selection in round three, followed by the Bengals, Falcons and Ravens...Round Four - The Eagles were awarded the 33rd selection in round four, followed by Buffalo, Baltimore, Tennessee and Green Bay.
NFL Schedule...Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the 2008 Kickoff Weekend national primetime television schedule today at the NFL Owner's Meeting...The 2008 regular season opens on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the Giants host the Redskins at 7 p.m. ET on NBC...the Week #1 Sunday night contest pits the Bears at the Colts at 8:15 p.m. ET in the Colts' first game in their new home, Lucas Oil Stadium...the first Monday night game of the 2008 season will feature a doubleheader for the third consecutive season, with the Packers hosting the Vikings at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the Broncos at the Raiders at 10:15 p.m. ET. Tyvon Branch...Connecticut CB Tyvon Branch is rising up the boards after a terrific showing at the combine and at his pro day workout this past Wednesday...Branch was impressive in the position drills, but stood on his numbers from the combine, where he ran a 4.31 forty, recorded a 38" vertical jump and did 19 reps at 225 on the Bench...Branch is a good size corner being measured at 5-11.3 208...He's had visits with the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns and the San Diego Chargers, and has had private workouts with the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals.

Cleveland Browns...The Cleveland Browns have recently visited with Auburn DE/OLB Quentin Groves and Tennessee's ILB Jerod Mayo...both prospects are projected to be taken in the first two rounds of the Draft, but the Browns won't be picking until the fourth round (pick #118) of the Draft...if the Browns fall in love with any of the prospects that they bring in for visits, they could trade one of their 2009 picks to land the player they covet. Dominique Cromartie...Tennessee State CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie a sure-fire first round pick in the upcoming Draft, has only one kidney...He was born with two, but one was non-functioning and was removed when he was eight years old...Cromartie will probably have to sign a medical waiver to play for the team that draft's him. Coastal Carolina Pro Day...WR Jerome Simpson recorded a 41.5" vertical jump, but stood on the rest of his numbers from the combine...Simpson dropped a few passes early on in his workout, but wowed the scouts in attendance with a number of acrobatic catches that drew applause from the onlookers....Bengals WR coach Mike Sheppard conducted Simpson's receiving drills...FB Mike Tolbert was timed in the 4.7 range and did 24 reps at 225 on the bench...the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers all sent representatives to the workout. Jerod Mayo...Tennessee Volunteers LB Jerod Mayo was in Detroit for a predraft visit on Thursday...Mayo has the versatility to play both ILB and OLB, and he'd be a great fit for a team that plays a Cover-2 scheme...Mayo is attracting a lot of interest around the league, and has already paid a visit to the Buffalo Bills. Green Bay Packers...The latest talk circulating around the league is the Packers may pull a surprise on Draft day and use their first round pick on a quarterback because some people inside the Packers organization aren't completely sold on Aaron Rodgers being able to stay healthy and take the next step to succeed Brett Favre.
Tennessee Titans...Titans head coach Jeff Fisher wanted WR Mike Williams (a former first round pick of the Lions) to report to the teams OTA's at 250 pounds....earlier this week, Williams was just four pounds short of the 20 pounds he'd been told to lose, which really pleased head coach Jeff Fisher. Marcus Howard...Georgia OLB Marcus Howard told Sirius NFL Radio that he had an on-campus workout for the Cleveland Browns earlier in March, and the Steelers and Colts worked him out after his pro day...Howard also has a upcoming visit scheduled with the New England Patriots on Thursday April 3rd.
Denver Broncos...The Denver Broncos have signed Baltimore Ravens QB Cullen Finnerty to a contract.

Al's Draft Scoop ...The Draft is still twenty eight days away, but the Draft buzz circulating throughout the league, is some NFL teams believe Virginia OG Branden Albert has the ability to play left tackle at the next level, which will greatly enhance his stock for the upcoming Draft. Albert is a former basketball player who didn't begin his football career until his junior year in high school. He's very athletic for a big man, and ranked first overall at the combine (for the top offensive linemen) in the 10 yard split (1.71) and recorded a 5.17 forty, which was faster than most linemen including Jake Long (5.22) of Michigan. Albert's broad jump of 9'-3" also ranked number one among the top linemen, and his 4.78 short shuttle time ranked second among the top lineman, and only behind Jake Long's 4.73 time. Albert started every game (37 in all) that he played at Virginia, and played two games at left tackle this past season. He has a chance to be the third offensive lineman taken off the board, ahead of highly touted tackles Chris Williams of Vanderbilt and Jeffrey Otah of Pittsburgh.
Justin Forsett...California HB Justin Forsett has a visit scheduled with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 7th.
Pittsburgh Steelers...The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be ready to sign free-agent DT Anthony McFarland on Tuesday night, but after working him out Wednesday morning, they withdrew their offer. Link
LSU Pro Day...Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards and GM Carl Peterson, St. Louis Rams front office personnel Billy Devaney and Tony Softli, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, New York Giants GM Jerry Reese, and New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis were all in attendance at LSU's pro day on Wednesday.
Olindo Mare...New Orleans Saints K Olindo Mare spent the last two days visiting with the Broncos and has a visit scheduled with the Seahawks today...the Saints, for whom he kicked in 2007, are still in the mix. Link
Opening Weekend...The Washington Redskins and New York Giants will kick off the NFL season in a Thursday night game at Giants Stadium, sources said yesterday...the time of the opener may change, however, from the usual 8:30 p.m. kickoff because Sept. 4 is the final night of the Republican National Convention....According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, the league is in talks with NBC to move the kickoff up to 7 p.m. Link
Heath Benedict...Newberry OG/OT Heath Benedict was found dead in his home Wednesday evening in his apartment in Jacksonville, Florida...according to a Jacksonville television station report, local police do not suspect drugs, alcohol or foul play was involved in his death...Benedict was an OT prospect for the NFL Draft, and played in the Senior Bowl. 03/26...Glenn Dorsey...NFL Network's Charlie Casserly is reporting that 18 of the 21 NFL teams that he polled this fall had LSU DT Glenn Dorsey as the top senior prospect for the 2008 NFL Draft.
Darren McFadden...Darren McFadden told The NFL Network that the reason he was only able to do 13 reps on the bench press at his pro day workout, was because he's been nursing a shoulder injury since the end of the season.
Trade Talks...Adam Schefter of the NFL Network is reporting that trade talks between the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans are heating up with the Titans asking for a conditional 3rd round pick in return for Pacman, and the Cowboys offering a conditional 5th round pick in return.
Tennessee Titans...The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with former Bills LB Josh Stamer. Link

Marcus Monk...Gil Brandt of NFL.com is reporting that Arkansas WR Marcus Monk ran the 40 in 4.43 and 4.41, had a 36 inch vertical jump, a 10-foot 2-inch long jump and ran position drills today at his pro day workout.
Felix Jones...Gil Brandt of NFL.com is reporting that Arkansas HB Felix Jones recorded a 34½ inch vertical jump, did 13 reps in the bench press, and caught the ball well in the position drills at his pro day workout.
Chris Williams...Vanderbilt OT Chris Williams told Sirius NFL Radio that he had a private workout with the Tennessee Titans today, and has a visit scheduled with the Detroit Lions on Thursday.
Darren McFadden...Arkansas HB Darren McFadden didn't participate in a full workout at Arkansas's Pro Day today, but he caught the ball very well in his on-field receiver drills, and ran a very impressive 4.10 short shuttle for over 25 NFL teams that were represented at today's pro day...McFadden also recorded a 35½ inch vertical jump, a 6.86 3-cone drill, and did 13 reps in the bench press.
Steve McKinney...The Houston Texans released center Steve McKinney today...McKinney was an original Texan and was the first unrestricted free agent signed by the 2002 expansion team.

Malcolm Kelly...NFL Network's Mike Mayock is reporting that both of Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly's knees are of such concern, that he could be completely removed from some NFL teams' final draft boards.
Brandon Marshall...NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the injury Brandon Marshall suffered over the weekend was far more severe than Marshall let on..Marshall severed an artery, a vein, a nerve, and five muscle tendons and needed surgery to suture the wounds...He'll be in a cast for the next two weeks and a splint four weeks after that, and will miss the next 3 months of offseason workouts with the Denver Broncos.
BREAKING NEWS...ESPN is reporting that the NFL has ruled that the San Francisco 49'ers tampered with Bears' LB Lance Briggs and must relinquish their fifth round pick (#135) and trade places with the Bears in the third round of the Draft....the Bears now own the 71st overall pick, while the Niners move back to the Bears pick #74 overall.

Jeffrey Otah...Today's pro day workout of University of Pittsburgh tackle Jeffrey Otah will go a long way in determining who the second offensive tackle will be to come off the board in the upcoming Draft in April. Otah was considered to be the second or third best tackle available for the Draft, before he turned in a disappointing performance at the Indianapolis Combine. If Otah doesn't impress the scouts at his workout today, he will likely be the fourth tackle to come off the board in late April. Jake Long of Michigan will be the first offensive tackle taken in the Draft, but there are different opinions among scouts regarding the second best tackle in the Draft. Ryan Clady is highly regarded among the scouts, but he reportedly scored a 13 on the Wonderlic test which is very low for an offensive lineman, and he needs to gain lower body strength to help him as a run blocker. On the other hand, Vanderbilt tackle Chris William's stock has been picking up steam as of late, because of his impressive workout for scouts at his pro day, in which he displayed impressive athletic ability for a big man. Williams also reportedly scored a 32 on his Wonderlic test.

Felix Jones...Arkansas HB Felix Jones told Sirius NFL Radio that he plans on participating in the position drills, the bench and the vertical jump at his pro day, but will probably stand on his forty time from the combine...Jones stated that he's a huge Cowboys fan, and felt the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Panthers and Packers have showed the most interest in him.
Joe Flacco...Joe Flacco told Sirius NFL Radio that Panthers QB coach Mike McCoy went through about a half an hour of tape with him on the Deleware campus just recently, and had him throw for about 40 minutes afterwards... Flacco has visits scheduled with the Baltimore Ravens on April 9th and 10th and the St. Louis Rams on April 15 and 16.
Simeon Rice...A television production crew is filming Simeon Rice's comeback attempt as part of a possible reality TV series...a shoulder injury he sustained in 2006 forced him to be released by three teams last season...but according to Rice, his shoulder is fully healed now, and he will run for scouts during the University of Illinois pro day.
