Al Fronczak's
2010 Mock Draft
Pre-Combine
(Version 4.0)
02/25

This is my fourth mock for the 2010 Draft, so still consider it a test run at this time.  Several players stock will change after the combine, and teams' needs will also change, due to free-agency. I will be updating this mock numerous times, between now and the Draft.                                                                                                                                                                       -Al Fronczak

1. St. Louis Rams...DT Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska)...A great pick for the middle of their defensive        line, but just a hunch on my part that Sam Bradford could be the pick, IF his shoulder passes an extensive set of tests that the Rams' medical staff is planning on putting him through at the combine.

2. Detroit Lions...DT Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma)...The Lions need a stud in the middle of their defensive line, so this pick is a no brainer...McCoy or Suh, whichever of the two falls in their lap.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers...CB/S Eric Berry (Tennessee)...This is a bit high for a safety, but Berry has the ability to play cornerback and the Bucs need as many DB's as possible to match up with their division rival Saints...a DE that can put some heat on the QB is also a high priority.  *Note - I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs wind up dealing this pick IF they can find a trading partner since the team has multiple needs.

4. Washington Redskins...QB Sam Bradford (Oklahoma)...The Redskins should have the pick of the litter at the OT position..but they also want the QB of their future on their roster from day one.

5. Kansas City Chiefs...OT Russell Okung (Oklahoma State)...A left tackle to protect Matt Cassel and  open holes for their running game is high on the Chiefs priority list...A safety like Eric Berry could also be considered here if he's still on the board.

6. Seattle Seahawks...OT Anthony Davis (Rutgers)...The Seahawks have two picks in the top 14      and would love to come away with a QB and a LT...Davis is their pick to replace LT Walter Jones.

7. Cleveland Browns...CB Joe Haden (Florida)...One of the Browns greatest needs is at the CB           position, but the Browns could possibly roll the dice on WR Dez Bryant here.

8. Oakland Raiders...DE Jason Pierre-Paul (South Florida)...A left tackle to protect the Raiders biggest investment - Jamarcus Russell (or the QB that beats him out for the job) is a high priority, but the top two have come off the board...the Raiders would also like to find a DE that can fly off the edge and pressure the QB...Pierre-Paul is just a one-year wonder, but his testing at the Combine will be through the roof, which could sway Al Davis in taking another Combine workout warrior.

9. Buffalo Bills...NT Dan Williams (Tennessee)...The Bills have numerous needs including QB, NT and OT now that RT Brad Butler has retired...but finding a NT to anchor their defense (since the Bills are switching to a 3-4 scheme) is a very high priority to run an effective 3-4 scheme...Dan Williams is the very best of a very slim lot of NT prospects available for the draft.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars...DE Derrick Morgan (Georgia Tech)...The Jaguars greatest need is to      come out of this draft with an elite pass-rusher...Morgan fits the bill, IF he's still available...*I expect the Jaguars to make an attempt to trade down and out of this pick since they don't own a second round pick and team owner Wayne Weaver is on record saying he intends to take QB Tim Tebow.  Trade Down!

11. Denver Broncos (From Chicago)...WR Dez Bryant (Oklahoma State)...The popular belief if that    Brandon Marshall has played his last snap in a Broncos uniform...if that's the case, then this pick is a         no brainer since the team would lack a playmaker at the position.

12. Miami Dolphins...CB Kyle Wilson (Boise State)...The Dolphins biggest needs are on the defensive   side of the ball at LB and at the FS/CB positions, but a playmaker for the offense couldn't hurt either...
The Dolphins could be a landing spot for UFA Karlos Dansby to fill a need at LB, if that doesn't happen, Rolando McClain will be their target...Wilson is the pick, if they land Dansby in free-agency.

13. San Francisco 49'ers...OT Brian Bulaga (Iowa)...The Niners need to find a starting left tackle        in this draft and have Brian Bulaga on their radar screen.

14. Seattle Seahawks (From Denver)...QB Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame)..The Seahawks made LT Anthony Davis their first pick and take Clausen here since Matt Hasselback can no longer be counted on to play a full 16 game schedule.

15. New York Giants...ILB Rolando McClain (Alabama)...The Giants have a hole in the middle of their defense to fill with the release of Antonio Pierce...McClain is the answer and could be on the board depending on how he performs at the upcoming combine.

16. Tennessee Titans...DE Carlos Dunlap (Florida)...The Titans have gone on record saying that they would like to keep UFA DE Kyle Vanden Bosch...but he turns 32 this season...Dunlap has as much ability as any other DE prospect in the draft, but a torch needs to be lit to get him to realize his potential.

17. San Francisco 49'ers (From Carolina)...HB C.J. Spiller (Clemson)...The Niners took OT Bulaga with their first pick in the round and add a player than can be a difference maker for their offense.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers...OG/OT Mike Iupati (Idaho)...The Steelers biggest need is to improve their     offensive line, and Iupati can start at guard from day one, and kick out to tackle if needed.

19. Atlanta Falcons...CB/S Earl Thomas (Texas)...One of the Falcons biggest needs is in their secondary at the CB position...It's either Devin McCourty or Earl Thomas here. *Note - A coin toss between the Falcons and Texans at the combine next week will determine who picks #19 and #20.

20. Houston Texans...CB Devin McCourty (Rutgers)...The Texans need help in their secondary but they could also use another dynamic playmaker for their offense.

21. Cincinnati Bengals...DT Brian Price (UCLA)..The Bengals feel they need to find a DT that can push the pocket and have found one in Price...the team signed WR Matt Jones, but they still need to find Carson Palmer some more targets to throw to.

22. New England Patriots...OLB Brandon Graham (Michigan)...Defense, Defense, and more Defense is the outlook for the Patriots draft...Graham has the athletic ability to drop in coverage and bring some heat off the edge as a rush end in the Patriots 3-4 scheme.

23. Green Bay Packers...OT Charles Brown (USC)...The Packers need to find a starting  left tackle in this draft and are hoping they found their man...Brown is a former tight end that has the skill set to play left tackle in the Packers zone blocking scheme.

24. Philadelphia Eagles...OLB Sergio Kindle (Texas)...The Eagles would like to find a DE, an OLB and a safety in this draft...Kindle is the pick here for now, but I wouldnt be at all surprised if the Eagles attempt to make a move up in the draft if they target a prospect since they have plenty of ammunition to do so.

25. Baltimore Ravens...WR Golden Tate (Notre Dame)...The Ravens might have interest in acquiring    Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin before the draft and could dangle DE Terrell Suggs as trade bait...if that doesn't happen, this pick could be used on a WR like Golden Tate.

26. Arizona Cardinals...OT Bruce Campbell (Maryland)...The Cards would like to add another OT (not  necessarily a LT since Matt Leinart is a southpaw), find a pass rushing OLB, and a replacement inside        for Carlos Dansby, if he departs in free agency...Campbell is a pure right tackle at this stage.

27. Dallas Cowboys...OT Vladimir Ducasse (Massachusetts)...The Cowboys need an upgrade at the OT position and need to find an ILB and a FS...Ducasse has the athleticism to develop into a starting LT but may need time to learn the position...He could also be moved inside to play Guard.  Trade Down?

28. San Diego Chargers...HB Jonathan Dwyer (Georgia Tech)...The Chargers have needs at HB, RT, NT, and depth at the DE position...Dwyer is the pick since the Chargers released LT and are in the process of overhauling their rushing attack.

29. New York Jets...OLB Ricky Sapp (Clemson)...Sapp is the pick since the Jets need to generate some pass rush from the OLB position since former first round pick Vernon Gholston has been a bust up to this point...The Jets could also be looking at a WR here or a DE like Jared Odrick since both of the the Jets DE's (Shaun Ellis and Marques Douglas) are getting up there in age.

30. Minnesota Vikings...OG/OC Maurkice Pouncey (Florida)...Pouncey is one of the best Center prospects to come out of the draft in years and would be asked to play RG to replace Anthony Herrera...the Vikings also need help in their secondary at corner and at the safety position and might need to add another DT since the team is waiting for a decision on the Star Caps case that could sideline both of their DT's for four games next season.

31. Indianapolis Colts...CB Kareem Jackson (Alabama)...The Colts could use some help in their    secondary and upgrade their offensive line across the board, but the top OT's have come off the board.

32. New Orleans Saints...OLB Sean Weatherspoon (Missouri)...The Saints have some tweaking to do  despite being World Champions...their number one priority is to upgrade both of their OLB positions and      Weatherspoon would do just that...Another DE, and depth for their offensive line is also a priority.

Prospects that just missed the first round:
HB Jahvid Best (California)...WR Arrelious Benn (Illinois)...OT Trent Williams (Oklahoma)
TE Jermaine Gresham (Oklahoma)...DE Jared Odrick (Penn State)...S Taylor Mays (USC)
LB Daryl Washington (TCU)...CB Patrick Robinson (Florida St.)
