Al Fronczak's 2010 Mock Draft
Post-Combine
(Version 7.0)
03/07

This is my seventh mock for the 2010 Draft.  I will be updating this mock numerous times between now and the Draft due to teams' needs changing because of free agency and trades.                                                                                                                                                    -Al Fronczak

1. St. Louis Rams...QB Sam Bradford (Oklahoma)...In my last mock (before the combine) I said I had a hunch that Sam Bradford would be the pick IF his shoulder passes an extensive set of tests that the Rams' medical staff was going to put him through at the combine...Bradford is the pick.

2. Detroit Lions...DT Ndamukong Suh (Nebraska)...The Lions need a stud in the middle of their defensive line, but could be tempted to move down if the price is right...Suh reminds Jim Schwartz of Albert Haynesworth who Schwartz coached in Tennessee. *Russell Okung could also be considered.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers...DT Gerald McCoy (Oklahoma)...McCoy will be a great fit in the Bucs defensive scheme....*Note - I wouldn't be surprised if the Bucs attempt to deal this pick IF they can find a trading partner since the team has multiple needs.  Trade down?

4. Washington Redskins...OT Russell Okung (Oklahoma State)...The Redskins have the pick of the litter at the OT position..but they also want the QB of their future on their roster from day one, so an attempt to move up for Bradford can't be ruled out...Jimmy Clausen is also a possibility.

5. Kansas City Chiefs...S/CB Eric Berry (Tennessee)...A left tackle to protect Matt Cassel and open holes for their running game is high on the Chiefs priority list...but the Chiefs won't reach from their board and a safety like Eric Berry will be considered here if he's still available. *Note - This pick could be a hot spot for a team like Cleveland, Buffalo, or Denver to move up and ahead of Seattle for QB Jimmy Clausen.

6. Seattle Seahawks...QB Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame)...The Seahawks have two picks in the top 14 and would love to come away with a QB and a LT...In my last mock I had the Seahawks taking Clausen with their second of two picks, but since he passed the height test at the combine, he won't fall to their later pick in the round with teams like Cleveland, Buffalo and Denver looking for a quarterback.

7. Cleveland Browns...HB C.J. Spiller (Clemson)...One of the Browns greatest needs is at the CB       position, but none of the CB prospects are worthy of this pick...Spiller will give the Browns a dynamic playmaker for the offensive side of the ball.  Trade down and accumulate more picks!

8. Oakland Raiders...OT Anthony Davis (Rutgers)...A left tackle to protect the Raiders biggest investment - Jamarcus Russell (or the QB that beats him out for the job) is a very high priority for the Raiders going into the draft.

9. Buffalo Bills...OT Bryan Bulaga (Iowa)...The Bills have numerous needs including QB, NT and OT now that RT Brad Butler has retired...Bulaga doesn't have the upside of some of the other tackles, but he's NFL ready and a safe pick for a team in need of offensive linemen...finding a NT to anchor their defense is also a very high priority for the Bills to run an effective 3-4 scheme....NT Dan Williams will also be considered.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars...DE Jason Pierre-Paul (South Florida)...The Jaguars greatest need is to     come out of this draft with an elite pass-rusher...Paul is a one-year wonder, but a prospect with a very high ceiling...*I expect the Jaguars to move down and out of this pick since they don't own a second round pick and owner Wayne Weaver is on record saying he intends to take QB Tim Tebow.  Trade Down!

11. Denver Broncos (From Chicago)...NT Dan Williams (Tennessee)...The Broncos could take a look at WR Dez Bryant if they are willing to overlook his character issues...Williams is a great fit for a Broncos defense that wilted like a dead flower down the stretch last season.

12. Miami Dolphins...CB Joe Haden (Florida)...The Dolphins will fill one of their needs on the defensive side of the ball with the signing of LB Karlos Dansby and now add Haden to help stabilize their secondary.
Haden has slipped to the Dolphins pick, after running a pair of dissapointing times at the combine...Texas safety Earl Thomas will also be given serious consideration as well.

13. San Francisco 49'ers...OT Trent Williams (Oklahoma)...The Niners need to find a starting left tackle in this draft and have Trent Williams on their radar screen.

14. Seattle Seahawks (From Denver)...OT Charles Brown (USC)...The Seahawks made QB Jimmy Clausen their first pick and take Brown here since he's a perfect fit at OT in Alex Gibb's zone blocking scheme...Brown played for Pete Carroll at USC...They could be tempted to move down.  Trade down?

15. New York Giants...ILB Rolando McClain (Alabama)...The Giants have a hole in the middle of their defense to fill with the release of Antonio Pierce...McClain is the answer if he runs well enough at his pro day since he skipped the field testing part at the combine.

16. Tennessee Titans...DE Derrick Morgan (Georgia Tech)...Morgan has the ability to put some heat on opposing quarterbacks and fill the void at DE left by Kyle Vanden Bosch's departure.

17. San Francisco 49'ers (From Carolina)...S Taylor Mays (USC)...The Niners took OT Williams with their first pick in the round and add a player than can help their secondary in Mays...Niners' head coach Mike Singletary came away from the combine very impressed with Mays.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers...OG/OT Mike Iupati (Idaho)...The Steelers biggest need is to improve their    offensive line, and Iupati can start at guard from day one, and kick out to tackle if needed.

19. Atlanta Falcons...S/CB Earl Thomas (Texas)...The Falcons filled their biggest need in their secondary by signing CB Dunta Robinson, but you can never have enough good DB's when you have to matchup with the Saints offense in your division...The Falcons will likely take the best player on their board at this pick, but could be tempted to move down in the draft.  Trade Down!

20. Houston Texans...CB Kyle Wilson (Boise State)...The Texans need serious help for at CB in their  secondary after losing Dunta Robinson...Wilson will likely be the top rated CB on their board.

21. Cincinnati Bengals...WR Dez Bryant (Oklahoma State)..The Bengals feel they need to find a DT that can push the pocket for their defense...but even though the team signed WR Matt Jones, they still need to find Carson Palmer more targets to throw to...because of character issues, Bryant has slipped in the draft...The Bengals have a long history of rolling the dice on players like Bryant.

22. New England Patriots...OLB Brandon Graham (Michigan)...Defense, Defense, and more Defense is the outlook for the Patriots draft...Graham has the athletic ability to drop in coverage and bring some heat off the edge as a rush end in the Patriots 3-4 scheme.

23. Green Bay Packers...OT Bruce Campbell (Maryland)...The Packers need to find a starting  left tackle in this draft and are hoping that Charles Brown of USC is on the board...Since Brown is gone, the Packers go to plan B...Campbell a is a player that has a big upside, but needs solid coaching to improve his technique to become a dependable starter at the next level. Trade up or Trade down?

24. Philadelphia Eagles...DE Carlos Dunlap (Florida)...The Eagles would like to find a DE, an OLB and a safety in this draft...Dunlap is the pick since Andy Reid has a history of taking linemen early....*Note - I wouldnt be at all surprised if the Eagles attempt to make a move up in the draft if they target a prospect that they feel they must have since they have plenty of ammunition to do so. Trade up?

25. Baltimore Ravens...CB Devin McCourty (Rutgers)...The Ravens acquired WR Anquan Boldin from the Cardinals to fill a need at the WR position and take CB McCourty to fill a need in their secondary.

26. Arizona Cardinals...OLB Sergio Kindle (Texas)...The Cards would like to add another OT (not  necessarily a LT since Matt Leinart is a southpaw), find a pass rushing OLB, and a replacement inside       for Carlos Dansby.

27. Dallas Cowboys...OG/OC Maurkice Pouncey (Florida)...The Cowboys need an upgrade on their offensive line and need to find an ILB and a FS...Pouncey played center at Florida but can move to guard and give the Cowboys some push in short yardage situations where they struggled last season.

28. San Diego Chargers...NT Terrence Cody (Alabama)...The Chargers have needs at NT, RT, HB and depth at DE...Cody is the pick since they released Jamaal Williams and have a huge hole to fill on their line...This is s bit too high for Cody, so they could move down and out of this pick.  Trade Down!

29. New York Jets...OLB Ricky Sapp (Clemson)...The Jets need to generate some pass rush from the OLB position since former first round pick Vernon Gholston has been a bust up to this point...Sapp can do just that...The acquisition of CB Cromartie from the Chargers allows the team to address other needs with this pick...They will also consider a WR or a DE like Jared Odrick since both of the the Jets DE's (Shaun Ellis and Marques Douglas) are getting up there in age.

30. Minnesota Vikings...DT Brian Price (UCLA)...The Vikings need help in their secondary at corner and at the safety position and might need to add another DT since the team is waiting for a decision on the Star Caps case that could sideline both of their DT's for four games next season.

31. Indianapolis Colts...WR Golden Tate (Notre Dame)...The Colts could use some help in their    secondary and upgrade their offensive line across the board, but another dynamic play-maker for their offense would have come in handy against the Saints in the Super Bowl.

32. New Orleans Saints...OLB Sean Weatherspoon (Missouri)...The Saints have some tweaking to do despite being World Champions...their number one priority is to upgrade both of their OLB positions and     Weatherspoon would do just that...Another DE, and depth for their offensive line is also a priority.

Prospects that just missed the first round:
HB Jahvid Best...HB Ryan Matthews...HB Jonathan Dwyer...WR Arrelious Benn
TE Jermaine Gresham...CB Kareem Jackson... CB Patrick Robinson
